Kyle Carrero Lopez was born to Cuban parents in northern New Jersey. He is the author of the chapbook MUSCLE MEMORY, winner of the 2020 [PANK] Books Contest, forthcoming August 2021. Among other subjects, his work centers Black liberation and Afro-Cuban histories.
Kyle co-founded LEGACY, a Brooklyn-based production collective by and for Black queer artists. His writing is published widely and has been highlighted in The Atlantic and W Magazine.
His undergraduate studies at William & Mary focused on literature, ecopolitics, visual culture, and linguistics, earning him a B.A. in English Literature and Interdisciplinary Studies. He also holds an M.F.A. in Poetry from NYU, where he was a Goldwater Writing Workshop Fellow and Provost’s Global Research Initiative Fellow at NYU Berlin.
