MOBI was created in 2017 by DaShawn Usher, currently the Programs Officer, Communities of Color at GLAAD, in response to a lack of spaces for Black gay men and queer communities of color to develop personally and professionally while creating a supportive community network.
As an alternative to limited social gathering spaces, we seek to provide a platform for Black gay men and queer people of color to speak authentically about issues that affect them as it relates to health, wellness, and personal and professional development. All our events and initiatives are peer-led and connect members of the community across different social classes, different education levels, and across different ages.
The demand for MOBI has grown outside of New York City and has been met with additional programming in cities including Atlanta, Georgia; Washington, DC; and Newark, New Jersey. Virtual events and activations in response to COVID-19 have increased our reach worldwide with impressions of over 2 million globally.
In our fourth year of programming, we've reached a landmark of $1 million dollars in funding that we have poured back into Black gay and queer communities of color. With contributions from supporters like YOU we hope to continue providing much needed programming in the years to come. Help support us and our work with a donation at the link below.
